Adding a Second Driver to Your Exotic Car Rental

Introduction

Sharing the Wheel on Your Exotic Rental

Some cars are too good to keep to yourself. On a road trip, a weekend getaway, or a drive down the coast, it's natural to want to trade turns behind the wheel of a Lamborghini or Rolls-Royce.

‍

The key is planning it the right way. On an exotic rental, only approved drivers may drive, so a second driver has to be added and verified before they ever take the keys. Here's how it works.

Why Every Driver Has to Be Approved

Your rental agreement lists who is authorized to drive the vehicle. Anyone not on it is an unauthorized driver, and letting them drive breaks the rental terms. If something happens while an unapproved person is behind the wheel, coverage may not apply, your security deposit can be at risk, and the rental can be ended early.

That's why every driver is verified before the vehicle is released, and why a second driver needs to be approved before their first turn, not after.

‍

What a Second Driver Needs

An additional driver must meet the same rental requirements as the primary renter:

  • Age: At least 25 years old.
  • License: A valid driver's license. Drivers with a license issued outside the United States also need a valid International Driving Permit.
  • Driving record: A clean record with no major moving violations, suspensions, or DUI history.
  • Insurance: Active personal auto insurance with comprehensive and collision coverage and 100/300/100 limits. Our team will confirm how coverage applies to each driver before pickup.
  • Rental agreement: Each driver is named on, and agrees to, the rental agreement.

‍

How to Add a Second Driver
  1. Tell us when you book. Mention the second driver on your rental application or when you speak with our team.
  2. Send their documents early. Share their license and insurance details ahead of time so verification is finished before delivery day.
  3. Have both drivers at the handoff. Every driver is verified before the vehicle is released. Our delivery handoff checklist covers what to have ready.
  4. Review the terms together. Mileage allowance, fuel, tolls, and driving restrictions apply to every driver.

‍

Adding a Driver Mid-Rental

Plans change. If you decide partway through your rental that someone else should drive, call us before they get behind the wheel. Don't hand over the keys and sort it out later. Our team will tell you what's needed to approve them.

‍

Tips for Sharing the Drive
  • Walk both drivers through the controls at handoff, including drive modes, reverse, front-lift systems, and the convertible top.
  • Agree on who drives when. Let the more experienced driver take unfamiliar roads, heavy traffic, or Florida rain.
  • Remember that charges follow the rental. Tolls, extra mileage, fuel, and any damage are billed under the rental, no matter who was driving.

‍

Rather Not Drive at All?

If your group would rather sit back and enjoy the ride, book chauffeur service instead. A professional chauffeur handles the driving while everyone enjoys the car.

‍

Frequently Asked Questions

Can my spouse or partner drive the rental?

Only if they're approved as an additional driver and meet every rental requirement. Being related to the renter doesn't make someone an authorized driver.

‍

Is there a fee to add a second driver?

Ask our team when you book. We'll confirm any additional driver charges and requirements for your specific vehicle.

‍

Can a driver under 25 be added?

No. Every driver must be at least 25 years old.

‍

Can I add a driver after the car is delivered?

Call us first. A new driver can't drive until they've been verified and approved.

‍

What happens if an unauthorized person drives?

It violates the rental agreement. Coverage may not apply, and the renter may be responsible for any resulting costs.
